Grandpa Derby
Botafogo v Fluminense
In Rio de Janeiro, there is a fierce rivalry between the 4 big clubs (Vasco, Flamengo, Botafogo and Fluminense). The oldest derby is Botafogo-Fluminense. Both were founders of the Rio de Janeiro league in 1906, and still today they quarrel about the 1907 title. It's known as the Classico VovĂ´ (Grandpa derby), since it dates from way back to the 1900s.
Both Botafogo and Fluminense have had thier share of success throughout thier history. Botafogo was placed 12th in FIFA Clubs of the 20th Century. Although considered one of the most successful football clubs in Brazil, Fluminense's greatest honour was not won in a football field. Among its collection of national and international trophies stands the diploma received in 1949 regarding the award of the IOC's Olympic Cup (Coupe Olympique).
